IEC Visa ending - Problems with online visitor visa (TRP) application

I am applying for a temporary resident permit as my IEC visa expires shortly. The come to Canada wizard has directed me to complete IMM5708E and supply other information. On IMM5708E if I tick the "initial TRP or extension to a TRP" box I can validate the form but get an error message when I try to upload the form.

‘Error: The form you have uploaded was not accepted. Error Description: To apply for a temporary resident permit, please complete the application on paper and submit it to a IRCC office. When applying online, please ensure that the checkbox titled “initial temporary resident permit or extension of temporary resident permit” is not checked on the application form.’

If no box is ticked I cannot validate the form. If I tick another option "Extension of my temporary resident status" the form validates and uploads. However, I am uncertain if this is the correct box as I am on an IEC work visa at present and have not had a previous visitor visa.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

You may want to do a little more research. A Temporary Resident Permit is a special permit granted to people who are inadmissible to Canada but have serious and compelling reasons to enter.

You want to change your status an extend your stay as a visitor, NOT apply for a TRP.

Thanks and sorry I used the wrong terminology I meant a visitors visa which sometimes appears as temporary resident visa (not permit). I entered my details in the come to canada wizard. I am trying to extend my stay in Canada after the end of my IEC work visa. The wizard directed me to fill out IMM5708E. I know an IEC work visa cannot be extended. Would I be correct in checking the box which indicates "Extension of my temporary resident staus" on IMM5708E?

A Temporary Resident Visa, TRV, is something entirely different as well. It is what non visa-exempt people must apply for to travel to Canada. From previous posts, you are British, so you can't even apply for a TRV.

Yes, you want to select "Extension of my temporary resident status".
