IEC Visa ending can I apply for a visitors visa?

My IEC two year visa is expiring in a couple of months. I realise that IEC visas cannot be extended, and I will have to stop working. Can I apply for a visitors visa whilst in Canada? Would I have implied status as a visitor when my IEC visa expires if the I am still waiting for visitor visa approval? I have seen reference to Temporary Resident Permit is this the same as a visitors visa? I have sufficient funds to support myself.

Yes - you can apply to change your status to visitor without leaving Canada. Make sure you submit your application and it reaches CIC before your IEC expires. You'll need to stop working as soon as your IEC expires but will be able to stay in Canada without working under implied status until you receive a decision on the visitor visa application.
