Hi everyone,

I am an Irish citizen living in Canada on the International Experience Canada program. My issue is that my current IEC permit was incorrectly filled in.

I got my permit on June 11th 2011. The IEC permit is supposed to be valid for up to a year from the date you get it. However, when I got my permit at immigration, they made a mistake - they dated it as valid up to May 18th 2012, NOT June 11th.

My understanding was that it was supposed to be valid for up to 12 months from the date you receive the permit.

Does anyone know what to do here? Or has anyone ever had this problem?

Thank you!

What about the expiration date of your passport? Up to when is it valid?

Passport is valid up to April 2015, so I know it's not that.

EDIT: Is it possible that they mistakenly set it to 1 year from the date I received my letter of introduction? The letter states: "YOU MUST ENTER CANADA BEFORE / DATE LIMITE D’ENTREE AU CANADA : 5/18/2012"

From my understanding, this means that I had until May 18th to activate my permit, and was not supposed to be the date it expires.

It is possible but did you not look at your WP while still in the presence of the officer?

I did, but the officer there was quite rude, insisted she was right and just didn't want to hear about it - she almost refused to even give me the permit at all when I was coming in! She didn't seem to be very aware of the existence of the IEC program, to be honest, maybe a training issue.

I felt somewhat intimidated and didn't want to risk her not letting me in or something like that, so I let it be. The only reason I am mentioning it now is because I'm applying for another permit which is taking a long time to process, and I just want to be covered for a little more time, to allow more time for it to be completed.
