Hi there,

I'm an Australian who is enrolled at a Canadian university and I've been in Canada for four months on a tourist visa.

I also have an approved IEC visa. Do I need to leave the country to activate this?

Also, I have a lease, a job offer and I'm returning to the Canadian university in September. Do I need proof of $2,500 CAD to activate my IEC visa, or is evidence of all of this enough?

Any information would be appreciated!

Well assume that anything you are doing with the uni is no longer than 6 months else believe you need a study permit not IEC http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=931&top=25

To activate the iec you need follow the flagpole process at the nearest land border. This is where you present yourself to US immigration tell you are flagpoling and they give you an admin refusal of entry to the US. You return to Canadian side, present your POE letter, proof of 2500 cad and 2 years travel insurance which is key to get the full term from when you land to activate.
