Hello,

I'll be travelling to the U.S. from Canada via road border. I have a valid US B1/B2. I've travelled via the land border several times. As I renewed my Indian Passport, I am unable to apply for the 6$ I94 fee online as it says no i94 record exists for my passport. How do I go about this issue? Should I just proceed to the road border, with my old and new passport along with my visa in the old passport? Will a new i94 be created with my new passport and entry/exit be recorded there? While returning to Canada my PR card is usually scanned, with the passport change how will the i94 departure be recorded?

Thank you

You should rely on your own records.

Wouldnt the canadian side have a record of our departures? I assumed that would need to be syncd with whatever I maintain

Both the Canadian side and the USA side would have records of your departure.

With the passing of Bill C-21, An Act to amend the Customs Act, data on all travellers (including Canadian and U.S. citizens) has begun to accumulate as of July 11, 2019, for travel by land. On June 25, 2020, the CBSA began collecting pre-departure exit information and exit records directly from commercial air carriers. Commercial air carriers will have until November 2022 to comply.

Since you are not a US citizen or a US LPR, you can check your record on the CBP I-94 website, and you'll see that every exit and entry to and from USA (land or air) after July 2019 would have been recorded.

But sometimes they are not properly recorded.

That's true, and it was especially so before July 2019, when they did not have to share information on USA and Canadian citizens.

But since then, I think the record has been much better. I have crossed the land border so many times, before and after July 2019, and before and after I became a Canadian citizen.

All of my records after July 2019 were complete, both entries and exits. I agree though that some records before then might be missing.
