Hello!

I am a Mexican woman living in Canada for a over a year. I came here for a six month program and met my boyfriend who is a Canadian citizen. I stayed here to continue my studies and got my student permit. I wanted to apply for the off-campus permit, but apparently only students of certain schools can do it and my school doesn't apply. My question is, is there a way I can get an open work permit? I've been living with my boyfriend for a year so I think we're technically common-law, is there any way that can help me to get a work permit since he's a citizen?

Thanks and any suggestions or advice you can give me i'll very much appreciate it!

1. Basic answer No for an open work permit.
2. If you were sponsored as a c/law spouse, you could included an application for an OWP with the application, but it would not be issued until first level approval about 6 months into the process.
3. His status as a PR or Citizen, has no bearing on your work permit.
