I have not found this issue in the forums so far so hopefully someone can assist me.
My mother is a Canadian citizen. She married my American citizen father in the USA and I was born in the USA. When I was 7 we moved to Canada. At the time (1978) I received landed immigrant status. Later as a teenager I obtained a Social Insurance Number and got summer jobs, paid taxes, etc.
When I graduated high school (1988) I moved back to the US and joined the US Navy. Since then I have only been back to Canada a few times to visit family.
Now I want to move back to Canada. I thought I had to apply for a permanent residency card but my situation doesn't seem to fall into those categories. My time away from Canada was not because I was in the company of a canadian citizen, nor was I working for a Canadian company while living in the US.
I've heard some conflicting information. One is that since my mom is a Canadian citizen then I am automatically a Canadian citizen (and US citizen since I was born in the US) and don't need a PR card.
Any ideas on the proper procedures?
I should also mention that my father now has dual citizenship.
