I think they're updating their system and it triggered these emails
I think that's the case. The email means nothing and has no significant information. Simply telling you that if they want anything they will email you!

yeah, and it gives you an "update" about an old case file.

Mine too. I was trying to login last night and this morning, but couldn’t get in. There is a warning that there was a security breech, so they might have throttled traffic on the site while they do their security checks.
I logged in. There are no messages or any other updates. Gotta be a glitch. A lot of PR holders got the same message.

well no, it says that we sent the instruction in both languages - we didn't get the instruction, hence we weren't affected I think
I think they perform a maintenance/security check of the system.

A recent cyberattack has affected a small number of IRCC accounts accessed through GCKey. We locked these accounts to protect them from unauthorized access. We sent an email to affected users to explain what to do next.

If you get an email from us, follow the steps to reactivate your account.

Verify the following in the email before clicking on any links:

  • The email is in both English and French.
  • The From email address is IRCC.COMMDoNotReply-NePasRepondreCOMM.IRCC@cic.gc.ca.
  • The Subject is “Security incident on your GCKey account / Incident de sécurité sur votre compte CléGC”.
  • All links in the email point to gc.ca pages.
Take extra precautions to protect your security, including monitoring your account for suspicious activity and updating your account with a unique password

I guess it would be a challenge for hackers to guess my grandma’s horse name which is in Swahili :)

It's legit as the email in my case mentions my application number.
Mine has a different file number from different category I applied under spousal but it had an express entry file number. Very weird
