I need have advices about income and CERB with expired SIN number...

My current status is implied visitor. my work permit has expired already. I only recently noticed when I got my work permit, I have to update my SIN number...I would like to ask if it is okay to get income. And CERB with expired SIN number. I've been quite nervous about that recently. I got a work permit this summer. But my company canceled the offer because of COVID, then, I got cancelation fee as income, Also I applied to CERB a few months. I thought the SIN number works If I hold a work permit... Moreover, I lost my work permit unfortunately...;( I requested CIC to get a work permit letter once again. If you have any advice please let me know...

CERB is done. You would have to meet thr requirements of CRB.

One of the conditions of applying for the CRB is that you must hold a valid SIN . If your work permit has expired , the SIN is tied to that expiration date, thus not valid, thus not meeting the condition of holding a valid SIN

Have you been receiving CERB? When did you WP end? You may be required to pay all the money back.

My WP has expired on July. and I stopped to receive CERB before it expired. Hmmm... I will attempt to apply SIN number for previous period, if I could receive the work permit letter

You never actually worked in Canada which would also not make you eligible for CERB. You were very graciously offered a “severance” package likely so you could pay for your travel home but CRA will still see that you never worked any hours in Canada yet applied for CERB.

You don’t qualify for a SIN. You didn’t even qualify for CERB since you never started the job in Canada so you didn’t lose your job due to Covid..
