I need some help. I have applied for permanent residency (Federal Skilled Category) in 2006 outside of Canada. At that time I had 68 points (minimum requirement was 67 points). However, a while ago I got a divorce and I cannot use the 4 points for my spouse education. It means now I have only 64 points. This includes 8 points for language skills (Moderate level). Now I have 2 questions.

Question 1) Should I inform the Canadian Embassy about my divorce? If yes, how can I inform them? By mail? Email?
Still my profile is "in process" status. Can I wait until they ask me for supporting documents and at that time I inform them of my divorce?

Question 2) If I take the IELTS test and improve my English skills to increase my points for the language skills (from 8 to 12), will that cover the 4 points I am missing for not having my spouse points anymore?

Hope my questions are clear and someone can help me with the right answer.

All the best

If I were you, I would either do IELTS now and then inform them of the divorce at the same time or inform them all together when they ask you to update form. The problem for waiting till then is that you have little time to improve your IELTS score. Thats just my opinion, i am no expert.

hi shima..
well to the best of my understanding.. the divorse wont affect your eligibility... since your application is in process, the eligibility review is already completed.. things are considered as on the date of application and changes happening later on are not considered.. so you must inform them about the divorse. but also take up IELTS asap for a back up.. You will have to anyways inform the visa office about your divorse.. else while entering canada the immigration officer might take objection for it.. and when he sees your divorse certificate dated 6 mnths ago.. he woudl question you why you didnt inform the visa office..
This is my view.. i might be wrong!!

Answer 1- Inform them by mail.. write a letter of explanation duly signed by yourself.. attach divorse documents as well.
Answer 2- Yes your IELTS score would cover, if you improve your score

An example - If i have a job offer from canadian company and total points are 70(including job offer points). I apply for PR and after 2 mnths the company goes bankrupt and shuts down.. its not my mistake.. my PR would still be processed since as on the date of application i was eligibile for it for it.

Hope the reply was clear..
