Hey everyone,

I am from Australia, it is almost my birthday in which this year I will be turning 18. My great grandmother was an Canadian citizen (which I never met her sadly and died 7 years ago :( ) would I be able to move to Canada? Or am I just wasting my dreams about moving over there? I would love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks.

It's extremely unlikely you have any claim to Canadian citizenship based on the information you have provided. You can try taking the following online test to confirm:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/rules/tool_04.asp

If you want to find out how you might be able to apply to immigrate to Canada in a few years once you have finished school and gained some experience, you can read about Canada's immigration programs here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp

It would also be worthwhile for you to read up on Canada's working holiday visa program for Australians which would allow you to work in Canada temporarily (1-2 years):

You are not citizen of Canada even your great grand mother was Canadian. As "Scylla" pointed out in the last option which is the easier way for you to come and live in Canada under Temporary Worker Visa and thereafter you might claim your PR following the due process of immigration rules.
