I may have made a mistake re: processing city

Hi Everyone,

Background: My husband and I met in 2006 on vacation, started dating in summer 2009 and got married November 24, 2010 in Italy. (He is an Italian Citizen in Milan). I was living with him on a temporary visa and I had to move back to Canada 2 week after we got married. He is still living in Milan for now. We filled out all the forms and got everything sent out to CIC Mississauga the end of January.

My question is: When the form asked which office would we like to process the application, I put CIC Mississauga even though he's living in Milan only because there is no Embassy or Visa office in Milan and Mississauga is close to me. Now I'm worried that they will consider this inland rather than outland. Do you think they will contact us when they see this if they have questions? There is no number to contact them and we have not received a confirmation of receipt yet. (I heard this takes around a month or so).

Also, in terms of processing times, the cic websites says the processing time for Italy is 13 months but I'm noticing many people on the forum are getting processed very quickly. What should I be expecting realistically? Anyone else sponsored/sponsoring an Italian?

You should have indicated Rome as your processing office (Rome is the visa office for Italy).

Mississauga is not a valid answer to the "which office" question for outland applications. I think there's a good chance they'll return the entire application to you since the processing office information is missing.

thank-you. I guess I have to wait to have it sent back to me or is there a way to contact them since I know I made this mistake?

Has anyone else made this mistake?

PLEASE HELP. Is there anything I can do to be proactive? I'm just at the beginning of this process and need the support badly.

When they see you have put Mississauga they will know you have made a mistake. It's obvious the application should be processed in Rome, so maybe they will just change it themselves and send it off to Rome. If they do send it back to you, it will be soon, so you won't have lost much time.
