Hi. I am hoping that someone can answer the questions I have because I really can't find any information about my situation online.

Situation: I acquired my W-1 visa last year sponsored by my supposed-to-be employer but I was not able to use it because the employer experienced some financial loss even before COVID19 lock-downs. I am still here in my country (the Philippines) and I am not sure whether I can apply for a new employer or do I have to wait for my visa to expire (in 2022) before I can apply for a new job in Canada.

Questions:
1. How will I know if my visa is an open or close work permit? I can't seem to find that information on my Visa.
2. If my visa is close permit, can I apply for a new employer and be sponsored for a new Visa? or do I have to wait for my current Visa to expire?

1. It's a closed work permit if your employer sponsored you.
2. Yes, you can apply for a new employer and be sponsored for a new visa.
