So I'm applying for PR via commonlaw, and applying for an OWP as part of the process.
For implied status, will I get it either a) when they begin my application, or b) when my current permit expires before I get the OWP?
If it's a), will that override/nullify my current work permit?
If I have implied status and my OWP gets denied for whatever reason, would my implied status be taken away immediately? I'm concerned about this because I may need to rely on implied status because I don't have much time left, but if it can be yanked immediately, would I have to get out of the country at the same time too?
Has anyone here ever had problems with their employer while being on implied status? If it's as tenuous as it sounds, I can't imagine any workplace being happy that I could lose my right to work at any time.
Until October, you have valid status as a worker, not Implied Status. If you haven't yet received the OWP once your current permit expires in October, then you will have Implied Status.
OK cool, my status doesn't expire til late October.
If I find myself out of status, obviously I can't work but will I have to leave Canada immediately? Or can I remain while I find myself a visitor permit (or something)?
If you haven't received the OWP by the time your current permit is close to expiring, you could apply for a visitor extension just in case. This will maintain your status if the OWP app is returned after your current permit expires.
