Hello everyone! Quick question? Can one work between finishing the study program and applying for PGWP?

Here is the situation: my husband will graduate in July with the convocation set for October (his SP will expire in October). He is currently doing a CO-OP term as a production accountant (NOC 1111), and the company is willing to hire him! My question is: can he accept this offer, continue to work with them while applying for the PGWP?

well this is tricky. normally u can work until u complete ur studies meaning until ur final grades are available with all the restrictions of ur study permit(20hrs /fulltime on coop etc). once ur final grades r up u cannot work until u apply for PGWP. once u have applied for PGWP u can start working. so there is a small gray area between once u get ur final grades and the time u get the letter from college about ur completion of degree.

So, if he applies for the PGWP he can start working? Before that, he should not, correct?
So there is no absolutely way for him to apply for his PGWP and my OWP at the same time? Because as you said, he can not work until he applies.
I am so confused. Because I heard of cases in which the main applicant was working and was able to apply for both.

Yes new rules allows work while app is pending for pgwp, check urself cic website pgwp section clearly mentioned there

gsohi2011, thank you for your help! Although I have checked that website many times, I came to find that NO, he can not work before getting his PGWP. So even with the application pending, he should stop working.. could you please let me know where you found the information that says otherwise?

As per FAQ on cic website:

Can I apply for a job before I get my post-graduation work permit?

New rules for prospective international students are now in effect (as of June 1, 2014).

Read about these changes and how they may impact you.

Yes, but you must have a valid post-graduation work permit before working.

OMG, CIC is so confusing! On top of the information provided above, I also found this on CIC website:

"Final academic session transition from off-campus work permits to post-graduation work permits

Students can apply for a post-graduation work permit during the 90-day transition period following the completion of their program of study (i.e., the date on which they receive a notification of completion) if they fulfil all of the requirements for the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP).

They can continue to work off campus provided that they hold a valid study permit and have applied for a work permit under the PGWPP.

They may be a part-time student if the course load required to complete their program of study during the final academic session is part-time.

Students must cease working if their work permit application under the PGWPP is refused."

What is confusing? If you hold a valid NON EXPIRED study permit, you are free to work

If you read my thread, you will see that previously I got an information on their website saying that one can’t work before getting the PGWP.

ur confusing ur self. as I have explained before u can work if ur PGWP application is in process. that question u posted does not answer everything it just tell u if u can apply for a job or not. again u can work if u have applied for PGWP this has been confirmed with CIC and university as well. now only problem is after graduation till u get the letter of graduation where u cannot apply for PGWP and u no longer are a student.

I am confused as i have done my bachelors of science in Information technology from UAE and some friends are saying that Post graduation work permit is only for the students who graduate mean complete their bachelors degree or diploma from Canada also and then go for PG studies.

In shorts,if i will get admission in this PG certificate would i be eligible for Post graduation work permit after completing it or only those international students can apply PG work permit who have done bachelors degree also from Canada and then later on PG studies.

u need to verify ur college and the program u select qualify for PGWP. some private institution do not qualify for PGWP.
