Hello Folks,

I have a question. I am currently on Bridging Open Work Permit with CEC Application in process. My wife is currently on Temporary Resident Permit that was issued to her based on my original Closed Work Permit. As her TRP is about to expire, I wanted to find out if instead of applying for a new TRP, which will cost more and will not allow her to work, whether we should apply for an Open Work Permit for her based on our pending CEC application.

I just want to make sure that Spousal Open work permit does NOT require a "parallel" TRP. I checked the online questionnaire and it gave us two options: "Temporary Resident Permit" and "Temporary Resident Permit (With Open Work permit)". But of course in the document check list it only provided the fee ($155) for Work Permit. I want to make sure that we do not need to select TRP and OWP in the application and not submit fees for both TRP and OWP. Furthermore, the OWP application can be submitted online and is quicker whereas the TRP application has to be submitted by mail.

I will truly appreciate any guidance you can provide in this matter.

You can apply for sowp instead of TRP.. I would actually recommend U to apply for sowp.. Assuming that your wife is already in canada, it is better to apply for SOWP as it also allows her to work.. U can also do TRP online which I had done for myself earlier.. But still go ahead with SOWP and you don't need to apply for TRP concurrently

Blue info is not correct

If you will ask my opinion go for SOWP

Good Luck

Is your wife inadmissible to Canada ? If so she has a temporary resident permit and she has to apply to extend it along with the application of the open work permit.

Are you sure she has a TRP ? Or does she has a visitor record ?

Hey Susana,

you are correct. It is not TRP but the visitor record. And as others have suggested, I am assuming applying for SOWP is the best option.

Thanks everyone
