How to send requested information to consulate?

Hi,
I've a friend, who is applying for TRV. The consulate requested some additional information via e-mail.
He is going to send the additional documents thru courier. How does he send it? Does he fill out all the applications again?
I believe he has to write a letter, and in it he has to mention the visa application number (starts with V). Anything else?

Send the requested documents together with a cover letter with the file number through courier or registered mail so he can track it.
