My husband's PR card has already expired last year. It's been over a year since he applied for renewal. Unfortunately, my husband did not meet the residency obligation (730 days) and we think it may be why the renewal of his PR card is taking so long
He still has his expired PR card on hand.
My husband is planning to visit me in the Philippines for 3 weeks. Of course, he is planning to apply for a PR Travel Document when he gets here.
But since he was not able to fulfill the RO (730days), I've read that he might have a hard time applying for a PR travel document.
So the problem is HOW CAN HE RE-ENTER CANADA?
I've read in this forum before that those with expired PR cards can still return to Canada by riding a private vehicle from the USA. This is an option we're looking into.
So his plan is to book a flight from the Philippines to the US then cross the border to Canada via private vehicle (a relative will pick him up). Has anybody tried this before?
Questions:
1. Will this work? Will he be able to return to Canada?
2. Since he was already not able to fulfill the residency obligation (730 days), will leaving Canada affect his pending PR card renewal?
