Hi there,
I sponsored my parents and they just landed Canada few months back. I lost my job from Alberta and could not manage similar job in Canada. I moved outside Canada for my professional job. My parents are my dependent and recently I became Non resident of Canada. My parents can't live without me. I have the questions below:
1. If I won't get any professional job in Canada within next five years, how can my parents maintain their PR?
2. As I am Non resident, can my parents renew their PR after 5 years without staying 2 years in Canada?
3. How can my parents extend their PR after five years without staying in Canada as I am outside Canada?
Please provide me some suggestions and references in this regard.

1. Your parents need to live in Canada for 2 out of every 5 years to maintain their PR status.
2. No.
3. They can't.

Appreciated your reply. But I signed with CIC that they won't be a burden for Canadian government for next few years. How can they stay in Canada while I am a non resident of Canada??
For spouse CI

For spouse of a Citizen, CIC has exceptions but there is no exception for parents who are the dependent of NRA sponsor?

were you permanent or temporary (work permit) resident?

Given the OP sponsored parents have assume they are either a citizen or a PR and if the latter of course they must also meet the 2 out of 5 rule. Plus even if the OP is a citizen and the parents move out of the country with the OP , the accompanying rule would not apply for parents.

No, there is no exception.

If your parents don't live in Canada for 2 of every 5 years, they will most likely lose PR status. It's as simple as that.

Correct - no exception for parents. Only applies to spouses and dependent children. Your citizenship doesn't help them. They still need to meet RO.

You are financially responsible for them for 20 years.

They can remain in Canada and you can send money back to Canada to support them from outside of Canada. You can find a job in Canada. They could work in Canada. They could move with you and forget about PR. Lots of options - up to you to sort it out.

Since you have ties and financial obligations in and to Canada (you're parents), you might want to check up on that non resident status with someone familiar with Canadian tax law.
Irregardless, it's your parents responsibility to maintain the RO. They either live here 2/5 or they don't. Your having to work elsewhere wouldn't be suitable grounds for H&C for them at a later date.
