I need to get a certified cheque in Canadian funds for payment towards university of Toronto. Are Demand drafts from banks in India accepted?

I think university of Toronto will have payment options for International students. As far as I know cheques and DD's cannot be sent Internationally. There is a reason why travellers cheques exist.

I did ask them for alternative options.. But the university wasn't of much help. They said these were the only options.

I don't know who you asked but such information is clearly spelt out in their website. A quick google search is all you require.

http://www.fees.utoronto.ca/making_a_fee_payment.htm
It's not tuition fee payment that I'm asking.. This pdf is meant for paying the tuition fee. I'm asked by the university to send a confirmation deposit and its specified in my acceptance letter. A confirmation deposit is to secure the admission offer and to indicate that I would be attending the university

All type of payments is mentioned clearly in the document. Your only options are a bank draft or a money order. Alternatively if you have a credit card that can cover the cost of the deposit then you can do that as well.

I think it's mentioned clearly in the documents what you can use to pay for your confirmation deposit. No university will create special exemptions for payments. You have to use what payments they specify.

3. Pay Your Deposit:
A deposit of $500.00 is due to secure your offer of admission. Please submit your deposit by certified
cheque or money order only, in Canadian funds, together with a copy of this form. Make your deposit
payable to the University of Toronto and send it directly to:
Student Accounts
University of Toronto
215 Huron Street, 3rd Floor
Toronto, ON, M5S 1A2
The offer of admission will be cancelled if the deposit is not received by the stipulated deadline. Deposits
are applied to first term tuition and are non-refundable (to a maximum amount of $500)."
I just copied that from my acceptance letter. I suppose I should follow this instruction. I need to know how this can be done.

I guess you have to visit your local bank branch, they should be knowing how to proceed.

My sister also recently got admission for the LLM program in University of Toronto. She had enquired in the local SBI branch, where she has an account, about sending $500 in certified cheque or money order to the University. She was informed that certified cheque means DD. Since SBI has a branch in Toronto, the Forex link branch can issue a DD in CAD for this purpose payable to University of Toronto.
