Hi guys!
I lived in Ontario for 2 years and in British Columbia for 1 year, and I got driver’s licenses in both provinces.
I’d like to share my experience of getting a license in these two provinces. Maybe you can also share how it works in Quebec and other provinces?
In Ontario, you first need to pass the G1 written knowledge test. It has 300 questions, and you’re allowed up to 4 mistakes. Honestly, you really need to prepare for it; otherwise, you’ll waste $160 CAD plus your time on retakes. There are many apps for practice. I used G1 Test by Nikel Studio because it gives you access to all the questions for free right away. Thanks to that, I actually passed on my first try.
After that, you take the G2 Road Test – it’s city driving (parallel parking, three-point turn, hill parking). Finally, you do the G Full test, which includes highway driving. Only after passing that do you get your full license.
It was honestly tough, but I did it.
In Vancouver, the written test was much easier – only 70 questions from the official website. I don’t know anyone who failed it on the first try. Compared to Vancouver, Toronto was way harder, especially the highway part of the Road Test.
Toronto is crowded, with tons of cars, and for me, it was way more stressful. On top of that, my test was during rush hour when everyone was driving home from work – it was chaos!
Also, when I took the written test in Toronto, I froze because of the air conditioning, so bring a jacket, just in case.
Anyway, I wish you all the best with your exams and getting your licenses!
If you need tips, I have plenty (all free), so don’t hesitate to message me.
