How to count days out of Canada

Hi,

I've checked my Canada/US border crossings and there are about 10 such crossings. The arrival and departure dates are shown for each trip out of Canada and back again. Depending on how the days are counted, i can gain or lose around ten days of residency.

Eg.

Arrival (in US) 2018/08/10
Departure 2018/08/19

So would the Canadian immigration officer count that as 9 days out of Canada or 10? If you include the whole of each date, then it is 10. But in reality, border crossings occurred roughly middle of the day on arrival and same on departure. So then it is 9 days total (with the beginning and end dates being counted as half days). Unfortunately, the US website doesn't provide times of crossings, only dates.

Are the Canadian immigration services likely to give the benefit of the doubt or take the most strict interpretation?

Any ideas?

I ask because I may need to delay my arrival in canada whilst this ongoing Covid mess continues and want to know exactly how long i have to play with. Please don't tell me, "oh, you should have arrived earlier!", or other such opinions, which I'm not interested in.

Thanks in advance to kind and helpful people.

Even a single minute in any day is counted as a full day in Canada as far as residency is concerned. So leave Canada on 5/30 and return on 6/2 then days out of Canada are 2, 5/31 and 6/1.

Splendid. That works out same as the better case scenario. Thanks mate.

Edit: actually, it's even better!
