Hi there,

I'm currently on Post Graduation Work Permit (Open work permit) and have worked full-time for a Canadian company in a Skill Type B role for about a year. I used the CRS calculator to calculate my CRS and Question #8 had me confused since my work permit is a 3 year open work permit that doesn't include LMIA.

Am I eligible for these points since my open work permit is LMIA exempt and I have worked for 1 year in a skilled job (Type B) in Canada? Please confirm.

8) Do you have a valid job offer supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (if needed)?
A valid job offer must be
  • full-time
  • in a skilled job listed as Skill Type 0, or Skill Level A or B in the 2011 National Occupational Classification
  • supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or exempt from needing one
  • for one year from the time you become a permanent resident
A job offer isn’t valid if your employer is:
  • an embassy, high commission or consulate in Canada or
  • on the list of ineligible employers.
Whether an offer is valid or not also depends on different factors, depending on your case. See a full list of criteria for valid job offers.

Thank you!!

The short answer is no.

Your employer would need to obtain an approved LMIA in order for you to qualify for the 50 job offer points.
