Dear friends,

I am confused about the calculation of my work experience score. I started my work as a software developer about 4 years ago. After 2 years I became a technical manager. It means I have 2 years of experience as a developer and 2 years as a manager. According to the new rule of immigration in Skilled Worker Class, I am going to apply as a Computer and Information Systems Manager. The question is whether I should consider 4 years of work experience or 2 years.

Any help is appreciated in advance.

Kamal

2 years of managerial experience .... becuz you are applying under type 0...

•your work experience must be Skill Type 0 (managerial occupations) or Skill Level A (professional occupations) or B (technical occupations and skilled trades) on the Canadian National Occupational Classification list, AND

I think, it should be 4 years. As per my understanding, for max points One needs 1 yr experience in one of the 38 NOCs and rest 3 years could be in 0, A or B.
list of what codes come under 0, a or b

You must have at least one year of full-time paid work experience, or the equivalent in part-time work, in an occupation listed in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) list. Your experience must be listed in an occupation listed in Skill Type 0 or Skill Levels A or B of the NOC and it must have occurred in the past 10 years. You must have performed most of the duties, including all the essential duties, that are listed for the occupation.

Please help to correct if my understanding is not accurate.

YOUR WORK EXPERIENCE

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER 2 YEARS
SOFTWARE MANAGER 2 YEARS NOC:0213
OVERALL EXPERIENCE 4 YEARS

TOTAL EXPERIENCE POINT: 21

YOU ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY BECAUSE YOU HAVE 1 OR MORE EXPERIENCE IN THE NOC CODE 0213.

GOOD LUCK

I asked this question from two represent of Canada Immigration, both of them say that I should calculate only two years. Since it is not clear in the description of the Skilled Worker Package, I believe that it is not a MUST and depends on the officer who evaluates your application. If experts know exactly please share their view with us.

regards

PLEASE VISIT 5 MORE LAWYERS AND ASK YOUR QUERIES, BECAUSE THEY REMOVE YOU DOUBTS, AND IT IS FREE, IF YOU HIRE THEM THEN ONLY YOU HAVE TO PAY MONEY. JUST MEET AS MANY AGENT YOU CAN, USE THEM TO REMOVE YOUR QUERIES.

YOU DEFINITELY GET 21 POINT FOR UR WORK EXPERIENCE OF 4 YEARS
AND YOU ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY, BECAUSE YOU HAVE WORKED IN NOC 0213 CATEGORY FOR ATLEAST 1 YEAR...

PLS DO NOT BE CONFUSE. VISIT CIC WEB SITE OR CANADAVISA.COM TO REMOVE YOUR DOUBTS.

GOOD LUCK...

this proves that both these representatives dont know anything about canadian immigration. i can confirm that you should calculate 4 years of experience.

Dear ja77,

Could you please let me know about your claimed work experience in NOC 0213 and NOC 4131 ?

Thank you in advance.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR INBOX OF CANADAVISA FORM, FROM TOOL BAR GIVEN TOP OF THE WINDOW.

THANK YOU....

bamzi, ifran_meman,

i did two different jobs in two different time periods. one of them sounds more like NOC 0213 and the other like 4131. if you are looking for duties and responsibilities, then HRSDC's website is great and gives you a clear idea about the duties and responsibilities that you should be performing to consider yourself eligible.

http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2006/Profile.aspx?val=0&val1=0213
http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2006/QuickSearch.aspx?val65=4131

hope this helps.

Dear Ja77,

I mean the number of years that you claimed in your application under NOC 0213 and the other one. If the NOC 0213 is less than 4 years it means that the score of the work experience is not related to the managerial experience only. Please let me know because I it is really vital for me and I have got mixed by the different opinion about that.

Yours,

Kamal

its not necessary for you to have 4 years of experience only in the occupation on the "list". if you have at least 1 year of experience in an occupation on the "list" (0213, in your case), then you are eligible to apply. if you have experience in other occupations which are not even on the "list", still you can mention them and claim points for experience because of them. remember, the occupation on the "list" makes you eligible. the experience in occupations even not on the "list" still give you points. when i say "list", i mean the list of 38 eligible occupations for federal skilled workers. hope this is clear now.

Your application guide: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/EG7.pdf
Pages 12 and 13:

You will earn points for the number of years you have spent in full-time (37.5 hours per week), paid work.
Minimum Work Experience Requirements
You must meet the following minimum work experience requirements to be eligible to apply as a skilled worker:

You must have at least one continuous year of full-time, paid work experience or the equivalent in part-time continuous employment.

Your work experience must be in an occupation of Skill Type 0, or Skill Level A or B of the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC). See below for instructions on determining the NOC category for your work experience.

You must have had this experience within the last 10 years.

NOC website: http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2006/Welcome.aspx

A skilled job will have a NOC starting with 0 or if it's not starting with 0, then the 2nd digit will be 1, 2 or 3. If you have 4 years of full time work of jobs with skilled NOC's, you will get full points. If you have part time work translating to 4 years of full time work with skilled NOC's, you will also get full points.

There is nothing that says all your work experience has to be one NOC, one employer or anything like that.

Thank you Leon and ja77.
