I am an international student. I finished my study in April 2018 now I am in process of applying for my work permit. I started my study on May 2016 after completion of the first semester, I took a break and went home country due to some unavoidable circumstances and then came back on Jan 2017 for finishing the second semester. I have started my next course in September 2017. So, in two years study, I have two breaks. How should I apply for a work permit? Should I hire a lawyer? I asked one lawyer but the fees they are asking is $500. Please guide me, what should I do so I can get 3 years work permit.

If you apply for a PGWP now, it will be based only on the most recent course. Your first course doesn't qualify because you didn't study continuously. If you want a 3 year PGWP, you need to take another 1 year course.
