How much time does my spouse need left in her passport?

My wife's passport expires in less than a year and a half. Is that ok for applying or should she apply for a new passport first? (Does there need to be at least 1 year left or something?)

i'm pretty sure the applicant's passport must be valid for at least 6 months at the time the visa is issued. i would imagine this information is listed in the guide and checklist where the passport requirement is listed. it's not a big deal to update the passport mid-process, and it generally does not cause delay, so i don't see a reason to rush to get it renewed now.

In our case, my wife had 2 years left. She renewed early, before we started the process, so she would have lots of time left on the passport before needing to renew.
