I have recently landed as a PR but returned to the UK to continue working while searching for jobs in Canada.Does anyone know how much time at a stretch I can spend outside of Canada?
I'm aware that I must clock 730 days in 5 years to maintain my PR, but I'm more interested to know how much time I can stay outside of Canada at a go.

Up to 1094 days. If you spent 1095 days or more outside Canada in your first 5 years as a PR (questionaire when you apply to renew your PR card), you have to have some good reasons like having accompanied a Canadian spouse overseas or having been transferred outside of Canada by a Canadian employer.

Also, any day or part of a day spent in Canada counts as a day spent in Canada so if you leave on the 1st of the month and come back on the 30th, you were actually only gone 28 days.

Thank Leon, but I'm being made to understand I should not exceed 6months outside of Canada at any one time.
I've been looking through CIC website for any info on this, but i'm yet to find anything reliable.

The old rules, prior to 2002 or so were 6 months out of 12 so back then, the maximum time you could be gone was 6 months and then you had to go back for 6. Now it's 3 years and back for 2.
