How much cash can you bring into Canada from the US while avoiding questions at the border?

Say I want to bring US$5,000 worth of currency for a two-week stay. Will that raise eyebrows? Will I get pulled aside and get the third degree about banking business, why I'm bringing "so much," etc.

What would you say are "normal" or "usual" amounts for stays of different lengths?

$5000 isn't much. You will be asked by border officers anyways.

I was under the impression that you did not have to declare any amount under $10,000. You should be fine with $5000, especially if it's for a trip, and you aren't frequently crossing the border with big sums of cash.

Bring in as much as cash with you but 'declare' it in your form or to the officer at the border.
