Say when you cross the border, you get 6 months, then apply for an extension. After that, what are your options?

You can apply again, and again until you get PR :)

Hubby is on his second extension, we're going to apply for his third soon unless he gets PPR :)

I'm on my second and have just applied for the third yesterday. As we have already started preparing our application, I included information such as the tracking number on my police clearance request mailed to the FBI and offered to provide proof of medicals as well (receipts or a photocopy of the form). We felt it was important to show intent and progress this time around, since it's been 18 months since I began "visiting" Canada. ;)
