How long is the validity of first-time PR card?

I am waiting for my first-time PR card. I was told that the validity of PR card is usually 5 years. But my passport will expire before that. So will they still issue me a PR card with 5-year validity or will it expire on the same date as my passport?

it means technically one can have PR status for more than 5 years if their PR card is issued 6-7 months later than CoPR(considering the current situation).

You're confusing PR status and your PR card. The PR card is a travel document. It doesn't determine if your PR status is still valid.

The residency obligation starts from the day you land and become a PR. You must live in Canada for 2 out of five rolling years starting from the date of landing (regardless of when your PR card expires).

I understood now. PR status is valid for 5 year from date of CoPR and PR card is a travel document like a counterfoil in passport.

It's the PR card that is valid for 5 years, not your PR status.
