how long does their "additional background checks" take?

I can't believe new york office spend two and half month reviewing my work permit application, now they decide it should go through additional background checks. does anyone know how long does that usually take?

Hey guys

I have some questions... my application has a staus "further background verifications " since sep 2011 after returned my pp back without a visa issuance. and before 2 months I redid the medical again.

Is there any chance for refusal after medical? And how long it will take as average after medical done ?

If refusal, is there any chance for appeal ?? And how ??
