I got email from Buffalo office few days ago that they got my application and they informed me the file number. Anyway how long does it take for ECAS to be updated as "in process"? I have checked ecas and the status or permanent residence application still appears "not available".

Thanks.

It won't say "in process" until the processing of your application is...in process...and that'll take a few weeks. Knowing that the application arrived in Buffalo safe and sound is excellent news anyway! :)

give it 20-25 days atleast. i know its lil annoying :-X
good luck with your application :)

from experience, as soon as you have your AOR and get that number (immigration file number), it doesn't take too long, i'd also say 2-4 weeks, but try not to worry because they are in fact working on it. In my case I sent all the documents to mississauga on August 11, and the processing started september 24th. Best of luck.

Thank you guys :)

Yes, waiting is annoying. It is hard to be patient but I guess that's the only thing I can do :P

You've got the most important information already . . . you'll find that, basically, eCAS isn't going to say anything more than "In Process" and maybe "Medicals Received" for as long as your application is in process. Buffalo doesn't update eCAS to reflect what's going on with processing . . . in other words, if they request additional documents from you, that won't be reflected in eCAS. When you send those additional docs, it won't say anything about them having been received. When they initiate background checks, they won't update eCAS. So - once it says, "In Process", don't check it every day thinking you're going to be able to follow progress . . . and then get discouraged or worried because nothing seems to be happening. Even at the end, it will say "Decision Made" - but that tells you nothing other than that a letter is coming to tell you what the decision was. For all intents and purposes - while it might make you feel better to see your name on a CIC website screen and know that they're doing something - eCAS is not going to enable you to tell what they're doing, or gauge how long it's going to take. The best indication you'll have of that is the information you receive by mail or email from Buffalo . . . and even those communications will be "as needed". Less frustrating to just figure you'll fall somewhere within their posted processing timeline (4-10 months) and just wait it out.

Well said, RobsLuv.

Very well said Robluv,

I am in condition of "in Process" since Nov, 2009, so can understand it very well :(

hi there what is an ARO? thanks

An "Acknowledgement of Receipt" of the application.

Acknowledgement of Receipt. Not everyone recieves one. It's a letter from the visa office acknowledging they have recieved your application.
