How long does a typical back ground check take regarding spousal sponsorship

My application has been on going for 1 yr and 6 months. They are in the final stages of doing back ground checks since we received communication that we are to re-do medical and police records from january 2013. Its been 6 months now and still nothing.

Can anyone say how long a back ground check takes and what the process entails.

It depends on where you are coming from, and where you have been. Nobody really knows, and CIC aren't telling.

Well, its not that complicated, my wife hasnt been visited many places and has worked at only one place.

In truth, we really don't know how deep they go. They certainly validate criminal and marital information, as some on here have discovered As for things like national security issues, I guess it depends on the relationship with the countries involved. I don't see them popping down to the CIA or MI5 and asking "what do you know about this person".

Well this is now at the local visa office in Kingston jamaica. The waiting is driving me nuts, i hope it ends soon. Thanks for your input.
