How long do we need to maintain the COPR and what if its got lost on the way to get vital information?

Thanks for the suggestion in advance

Keep the COPR in a safe place forever. If lost, contact CIC.

its considered an important "id" in canada, my advice is to keep it - at least until you obtain your Canadian citizenship

Agreed. You need it to apply for citizenship. You can order a repalcement if you have lost yours (see the CIC web site).

They order another one (takes about 6 months) and you don't get an actual copy of the COPR just a letter saying one was issued. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/certcopy.asp
