Oh, I see! My local(ish) DMP is apparently not busy at all. I tried calling last week for an appointment in January, and the woman on the phone replied like I was crazy saying they don't take appointments that early. It's only a month before I wanted the exam, but hey, at least that won't be a problem I guess.

..and congrats AlanWales!

Hi, first time on here and wanted to share my news.

I started collating all the information in April, posted it off in July, and received my Visa two days ago. :)
Yey!!!! Congratulations to you AlanWales )

Took me a couple of months to get all my stuff together, I used a lawyer to help with the application but I did most of the work myself.

I decided to go the non-lawyer route. Really, this forum has all the lawyers I need! ;-)

The only reason I used one is because I was so scared of making a mistake on the application, the whole experience is a little worrying but really if there is no complications with your case it isn`t necessary and you most certainly can be given bad advice.

Just do it by yourself. Lawyer would make your apps delay. I did my spouse application in 20 days. Just follow the instruction and document checklist and you will be good to go. Usually spousal application is less complicated than others apps. Unless, you get too many divorce or additional child etcccc then you should use lawyer's help.

It took me about two months. But I was very disorganised and obsessive about the evidence, so when I thought I was done I would re-read the instructions and realise that I'd need more papers.

Lawyers do not delay applications. :) They provide assistance, but they in no way affect either the processing time of Mississauga nor the visa office.

Nor do they make your personal efforts go slower; you work at the pace you want.

It took me about 20 days. I filled and saved the pdf forms. I kept a notepad file and entered the missing questions or questions I don't know so that I can fill later for each form.

Yes, but it's not a waste of time. If you are very knowledgeable yourself it may be a waste of money, but certainly not time.

Yeah, I'll have to agree with the majority of the people here. It took us somewhere between 2-3 months, most of which is spent waiting for reference letters from slow friends, police clearances, medicals, etc.
