Hi all,

I hope you can help. I'm lucky enough to now have my Confirmation of Permanent Residence (thanks to this forum!), and I've been told I need to move to Canada now by July. I overestimated how long the visa process would take, so this date is little early. I want to know, 1) is it possible to delay entry into Canada (I'm suspecting not from the letter I was sent), and 2) if I was to enter Canada, then return back to the UK for a few months to tie up loose ends, how many consecutive days of my 730 days in 5 years allowance can I be away for?

Thanks for your help!

1) No. Not possible. Use it or lose it.
2) Yes - you can certainly do that. You want to keep consecutive absences from Canada under 3 years or you won't be able to meet the residency requirement.

Don't you mean over 3 years?

Don't you mean over 3 years?

No - under 3 years. Consecutive absence should be kept under 3 years to make sure the PR residency requirement can still be met.

DOH! My bad. I read "presence" instead of" absence".
Note to self: Read gooder!
You have to be living in canada for a total of 2 years ( non-consecutive) to retain the status.
