How long can we leave canada for ?

I am a permanent resident of Canada and after living here for 28 months finally I am going back for 8 months at the end of January 2014,just wanted to be sure if that will create any problem.

I will be back on October/14/2014 so would like to know it that's going to create any difficulties or problem in renewing my permanent resident in the future.

I know my citizenship application will be delayed as I am leaving the country but not sure about the PR so please help me by answering this.

You will be fine, as long as you reside in Canada for 2 years in every 5 year period, you retain your PR status.
