Guys,

I have come across many discussions in this forum about is it really worth moving to Canada . I am applying under NOC 2172 as Data Warehouse Analyst and I have a total of 8 yrs experience in the IT domain.

Can anyone throw some light on the job prospects under IT domain in Canada. Is Canada really an emerged market as far as IT jobs are concerned and whether the pay is at par with other major IT hubs like USA/UK/Australia ?

Please post your valuable suggestions ..

regards,

rsblr

if you compare with US market ...it is relatively very small...i don't mean to discourage you but would suggest to do full research on domain of your prospective in canada.

It is small and certainly not as fancy as the rest of the emerging or major IT markets in the rest of the world.

Vancouver doesn't get you anything fancy in IT (as far as I know), only Toronto...

USA is better for IT people.

I agree with the previous posts. I live in the US, right across the Canada border and there are a lot of Canadians, who cross the Border and travel into US for their Job, on a daily basis. The chances of getting an IT Job in Canada are very difficult. I am not saying it is impossible, but it is Difficult. This is also what a lot of My Canadian Colleagues have told me.

thank you all for ur responses..

but in that case i am surprised to see that the hot cakes of this year's FSW were all IT NOCs.
If the prospects were really poor y would people risk themselves in the first place.

can anybody suggest which city is the IT hub of Canada ?

I dont think you can compare USA with Canada. USA has a lot better job market in every sector I would say but when one applies for immigration it is not only because of job market. There is some percent of interest in other things also e.g. social security , free education for children and canadian passport ofcourse.

Agreed. Moving permanently means you and your children will be living there for generations to come. So current job prospect is only one factor to consider.

Yeah USA has better job market in every sector and the population is big as well. I think the key here is to plan out your movement and be flexible what comes along the way. I have friends in IT who got their jobs directly in Canada and they are not even immigrants yet. Their Manila experience in big IT companies were considered as their credentials. They are now in Best Buy Canada, Telus, Oracle, RBC.... most of my experience is in IT Retail so most of those I know are in Best Buy, Loblaw or IT support of big supermarkets.
