Greetings!

My classes are going to start on 7th September 2022 and I have booked a flight that will land in Canada on 28th July. Is it too early or would it be okay?

I have two genuine reasons for coming 42 days prior to the commencement of my classes:
  1. My supervisor will go on sabbatical in August (not sure on which date) for a duration of 6-12 months, so I need to meet them to get their lab keys. Also, I need to know which resources can I use in their lab, what should I do in their absence, etc.
  2. Since I know no one in the city where my university is located and could not apply for on-campus housing due to personal reasons, I need to find a room before my classes start. Also, I want to get familiarised with the city and know how to survive in it on my own.
Are these reasons strong enough to convince the immigration officer if in case they ask?

Thank you!

4 weeks is the recommended timeline. You should be okay but you will not know until you arrive.
