Thanks so much for your response!!!

Quick question, I know nothing in life is guranteed (especially with immigration) but how exactly can a US Citizen get approval for 6 months? What do I tell the immigration/customs when I arrive in Montreal? I mean originally I would say that I'm going to visit my wife, but apparently now that means that they're going to turn me away.

How did you do it? What did everyone else do when they crossed and asked for and got accepted for a 6 month visitor's visa?

Thank you for your help!!

Cheers!!!!

You'll need to prove you can support yourself whilst your there, prove you have sufficient ties to your own country and will therefore return at the end of your stay. If you have an application in process then be honest with them, say your staying to wait out your application and if not approved in time will either return home or apply for an extension.

I went in with letters from my family with whom i would be staying, bank statements from anyone and everyone that had agreed to help me with funds (aswell as letters stating they'd support me) some cash in hand, all my visa documents to date, marriage cert, proof of the address i'd be staying at, proof of my rent at home and a gaurenteed job i'd have when i return.

I was with my husband, he said he was moving back home and i said i have approval for his sponsorship and am just waiting on the london office (and told them the current percentage and minimum processing times) said if refused i was going to go home and sort out appealing, if refused again then my husband already had an ancestry visa and would move back to the UK with myself. I showed him i understood the process and all its options and the immigration officer said he was very impressed, showed me some stuff for how to extend my visitor record if i wasn't approved in 6 months, and informed me once i get to a certain point in processing i can apply for a work visa to help with some income. He also was joking with the guy next to him saying how good it was to see someone doing everything the legal way for a change, it was a generally very pleasant experiance - despite me stressing out and being very worried in the run up to it! The officer even informed me about my e-cas status (infact letting me know that he also couldn't get more info than i had already - i can't yet log into e-cas to see changes in status)

Just make sure you have as much info as possible, if you don't have an application in process i'd reccomend waiting until you do otherwise if you say your visiting your wife they may feel you will overstay and refuse you entry

I just responed to your question. I just got a visitor recorded and told the IO the truth that I wanted to stay with my husband to be and that I had no job and they had no problem with. Ask me if you have any other questions
