How do you cross the border from US with a car that is financed from US?

Hi guys,
Last year I bought a car through VW Financing. Right now, I don't know how to proceed if , of course, I want to take my car in Canada. I am planning to let an US bank account so I can make the payments for the car but I have no idea how to deal with the dealership...anyone in this situation?

U can't (export the car) w/out having it's "clear title". U may 'drive it' for ur landing -- stating that u'd be returning back within xyz date. Remember, in this scenario ur PR card's application might not be processed... however ur "record of landing" will be completed & u'd become a PR of Canada. U may apply for ur PR card at a later stage - when u reEnter Canada.

Qorax is right. You cannot export the car to US without having a clear title in your name. But there are couple of workarounds to it. First if you can get a letter from VW finance that they are ok if you move your car to Canada permanently. I doubt they would do it but I know a friend who got such a letter from chevy and was able to import his car without a clear title. It has to be an original letter on VW letter-head and signed. I was in a similar situation last year and tried getting such a letter but was expectantly refused by BMW finance.
Other option is if you can get your car loan transfer to a canadian bank. I am not sure how this works but I am sure if you talk to one of the local banks here they will explain you better.
