As all of us on this board prepare to make this major change in our lives, I cannot help but wonder- how does everyone cope with the stress? I am, by nature, an extremely nervous person prone to anxiety- and naturally, this process gives me the jitters, especially since there are so many months when nothing happens, and I cannot do anything about the lack of movement either.

I personally cope using a lot of strategies- generally, talking to my friends and family really manages to calm me down. I sometimes distract myself by playing video games (currently finishing up Fire Emblem Fates on my 3DS). I like to watch TV (Netflix usually has something good), or read a book (right now, I'm reading The Casual Vacancy). I go for a walk and try to walk the anxiety off. If I am really nervous, helpful replies by people on this board go a long way in calming me down :)

How do you all cope with the stress and the anxiety? Let's share our techniques and strategies as we go through this stressful time in this thread.

I play FIFA on playstation

Welcome to my world... I know you won't believe me if I told you that the best solution is to forget about it. Worrying won't make the application faster nor will prevent a God forbid rejection. So why to lose precious moments of your life worrying about the future. It was terribly hard for me not to worry, but eventually by ignoring the urge to ask about my application (working with a lawyer who took away my access to my profile). Also believe it or not, I took a 5 months vacation from this forum. Do get me wrong, this forum is awesome for people who need help but us worriers will focus on the negative fearful comments and apply it to our own application. In the first week after submitting I thought I will get rejected 5 times. Just forget about it. It is out of your control now...accept that fact.

Note: excuse any typos, writing this on a phone.

Good luck :)

Currently working my way through ALL the series of Friends on Netflix!! ;D

Excellent post! I definitely know what you mean- I tend to obsess over the small details and start thinking of every possible thing that could go wrong with my own application too :P

Still my favorite sitcom :D
What season are you on?

Different people deal with stress with different ways. Personally, I am living with this forum for couple of months to figure out how to submit the application without any flaws. I didn't submit my application yet, but going to do soon. I will keep visiting this forum even after my submission because you can always find the new information, and find out the mistakes I did with current application. In case if i get rejection, i can prepare myself better next time.

If you are confident that you submit the application with all required information without any mistakes then you don't need to worry about anything. If you are going to get it then you will get it, otherwise next time.

Relax yourself and plan for things that you can do after you get your PR or other back up plans. I had the exact same experience you have with my study permit, and now i learned how to deal with stuff now. So, play video games or get into some sports or go to gym which is really calm you down and make you feel good.

FRIENDS is a sure shot way for sure... do not read casual vacancy.. That book got me so depressed at the end :( !

Season 8 - Rachel is pregnant and living with Ross. Love this sitcom! Had a Friends cake for my 21st and the last song on our wedding video is the theme tune - which actually makes me sound a bit obsessed actually! :o

Totally agree with you! I had nightmares for 7 nights in a row! I was terrified! People were chasing me to kill me!! The same people every night! I talked to a psychiatrist and we finally found out it was because I was checking this forum and getting informed about rejections before I go to sleep! I stopped it and guess what? No nightmares anymore!
Just forget it, if you can! ;)

I will tell you to also focus on work or studies, then I'll be lying :)
Xbox + Netfilx + (something staring with a S that I think is should be censored here) are a great remedy to forget about anything :D

I think I have that book - duly noted, will not read it til I get PPR since I'll be pretty much euphoric and nothing could depress me!
