how do i know when my file has been received ?

i just took my papers to fedex today and they will be shipped tomorrow! i’m so excited but just wondering how and when i will get notified that cic has received my documents? do they email me? i know i can track my package but i mean from cic specifically

First, you can track the parcel with Fedex. You will get a signature when your application is delivered. However, you have to wait several weeks before they open your package. They will send the sponsor acknowledgment of receipt through email.

Yes, you will need to wait for your AOR. It will have the app# and UCI that you will need to find and link your application. Try not to get too excited and settle in - it's a long process. AOR can take anywhere from a couple weeks to a few months (at worst).
