I'm compiling everything we need to send in, and wondering if anyone can advise me on the best way to send in the application to CIC-M.

What have your experiences been with USPS vs FedEX vs DHL? Cost? Do I need any kind of customs declaration attached to the envelope?

Any advise would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I would go with something that is trackable, and personally I would avoid USPS but that might just be my own bias. Just go online and get a quick quote from DHL and FedEx--I am sure the prices don't vary that much. FedEx is as good as it gets for critical documents, in my experience.

The costs for UPS/Fedex are comparable around $70 from NYC to Toronto. We are thinking about USPS International Express Mail so it comes with tracking information. Has anyone used USPS and do the USPS mail get hold up at the customs in Canada?

USPS International Express Mail cost us $44 for a five-pound package. Anything that heavy has to have customs forms attached (the cumbersome white one, not the quick green one). It took five days to get delivered (one of these days was a Sunday). If it's mostly documents, I don't see it getting held up for too long at customs.

Thanks YorkFactory! I think our package will probably be around 3-5 pounds, and USPS Int'l Express Mail it is for us!

DO NOT use UPS... I mailed a couple of things to my husband that he had forgotten here using UPS and lived to regret it! I paid a huge amount to have it securely shipped, signature required, etc only to have it get lost.. twice.. to have it held up in customs, sent from customs, then turned around back to customs (keeping in note it was nothing 'shady' that would need that kind of attention)! It was terrible!
