How can I get my Marriage Certificate ?

Hey guys,

I am residing in Canada and currently in the process of sponsoring my wife whos in India.

The only document which is giving us nightmares is the Marriage Certificate.Our marriage was a traditional one and we did not think about getting the marriage certificate at that time ( i wish i had!).

We do have a proof from the religious authority who performed all the marriage rites.It is authorized as well.

I am just wondering ...will that be enough?? Do i really need a marriage certificate??

The problem is..I am in Canada and to get the Marriage Cert. one has to be present physically in the country where the marriage took place.So does it mean I have to travel all the way to India to sign my marriage certificate??? I relaly hope NOT.!

Please advise.

Here's the info, based on my situation, per my state's law (US), a marriage is registered ( the officiant signs your license). Then the officiant sends it to the town clerk where you applied and it is regsistered then you recieve your certificate at the address listed on your license. Now this is for the US mind you, from the research have done for my own. Feel free anyone to correct me or add to this.
My recommendation is ask your ministry( or other government body, whether local or country-wide) in charge of marriages, the exact action take here. Or even contact the individual that performed your marriage they may know who you contact ( which saves time and frustration). Just my two cents here, feel free to correct me folks, this is based on my personal knowledge only.
