I am a student from Brazil, and actually I am studying at NAIT in Edmonton, AB. I would like to become a permanent resident eventually. I need more work experience and need to take time off from studies as they're getting too expensive. My permit is valid until 2016. How would I go about changing this to a work permit if possible and would I be able to stay here in Canada during that process or would I need to return to Brazil?(could I maintain study permit until/if work is approved?)
I already saw one topic with the same problem, but it was old. As the new law about Imigration are upgraded I still have these doubts.

Thanks so much!

First you would need to find an employer who is willing to offer you a full time job. That employer will then have to obtain an approved LMIA (this process takes a number of months to complete). Once you have a job offer and approved LMIA, you can then apply for a work permit. You can do this from Canada. You should keep studying until your work permit is approved to make sure your study permit remains valid and you don't lose your status in Canada.
