Hi! I'm a Canadian citizen. My wife and I have been living in her country for the past three years. We have a two-year-old son and I'm a stay-at-home dad -- she's the breadwinner. She does freelance and private contract work. I intend on sponsoring her for immigration next year. I'm pretty familiar with the process, but does anyone have advice for this particular situation? Obviously, my income has been $0 for the past 12 months (3 years, really). My wife will NOT be able to continue the type of work she does now in Canada. I intend to be part of my parents small business when we return and have explained that in question pertaining to plans to re-establish in Canada. Any other advice would be appreciated :)

Officially there are no financial requirements for sponsoring. However, to convince CIC that you have a support system and the financial means to take care of yourselves, you may include a letter from your parents stating that they are planing on letting you in the family business, that you will stay with them in the beginning (if that's the case). You may include bank statements if you have some savings that can help you in the first months after re-establishing yourselves in Canada. You may detail any plans you have for your wife - employment-wise (work with you in your family business, pursuing other career, maybe even enrolling for some courses etc.).
