My stepfather's TRV document checklist asks for proof of funds "AND those of any individual helping
to support your trip, if applicable."

I'm not comfortable handing over my bank statement to anyone else but would CIC smell a rat if I was to put an amount (say $15,000) in one account and provide a statement for just that one account?
I don't want to raise suspicion for showing a lump sum recently deposited - if that's an issue, but nor do I want anyone else knowing how much money we have OR CIC thinking I might be planning to support him for a longer period of time than we're declaring (three weeks, which is the maximum time he will visit).

Does anyone have any advice please?

1. As a host, it's not mandatory to provide your financial documents.

2. CIC can contact any third party (for example, the bank) if they believe it was a last-minute deposit.

3. You can also submit your NOA, employment letter, etc.

4. It is possible to send your financial documents directly to the visa office.... instead of sending it to your step-father. You may want to check with the visa office for this. Do note that the TRV processing could take a bit longer in this case

Thanks for your reply.

What's an NOA?

I don't work so nothing from my employer. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and send my statement...

NOA = notice of assessment from CRA (what you receive after you file taxes)
