Hold PRship - Being outside Canada for almost 3 years now and Covid wasted 1 year

Hello

I obtained my PR Card in August 2018 as a result of soft landing in Canada and came back to my home country. Then, i booked a flight in March 2020 to come to Canada but the Covid thing happened and every plan fell apart. Despite the fact that Covid situation is still going on, i have booked my flight for May 2021 and going back to Canada. My 3 years limit will be expiring in August 2021 and therefore, i have to report back.

My question is: Is there any kind of leniency that can be expected by CIC over my OUTSIDE CANADA duration? I was flying in Mar 2020 but couldn't do that due to Covid. My complete year has gone wasted and now, i have no other choice except to arrive in Canada and stay 2 years to make my PR renewable at its expiration. I was hoping CIC might have developed a policy to address this matter.

FYI - the five years is calculated from the time you landed and became a PR, not from the time you received your PR card.

As said above, no policy has been announced regarding leniency in the residency requirement.

Explain why you can't travel in March 2020. Many people can travel during the year despite of covid. Booked flight and didn't travel is meaningless.

Plus there were many months since March 2020 that were opportunities to travel back to Canada + Canada's repatriation flights out of Pakistan during this time period.


To answer OP's question, there are H&C considerations in general, but these are reviewed on a case to case basis.
