Firstly - you need to check out the Canadian Immigration website and spend some time learning by yourself, the immigration stream for which you will qualify. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index-can.asp

You mentioned your wife is here as a student. If she is still on a study permit - you can obtain an OPEN work permit and keep working till she graduates.

Once she graduates, she will be given a Post Graduate Work Permit. You will be still allowed to work on OPEN Work Permit.

If you complete working for 1 year (12 months) in a job with a skill level 0, A or B - you will be eligible to apply for immigration through Canadian Experience Class. You can read more about it over here:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/cec/index.asp

Throughout this process, you DONT need to pay any money to any lawyer or any consultant. They are all frauds - well, most of them.

If you have good qualifications, if you can get a job, or if your wife can get a job and work for 1 year, she can apply for Canadian experience class too. Its very simple process, you just read the Canadian immigration website and apply from there. Please dont be fooled to pay any money. If you know enough english to fill out forms (which i'm sure you do) then you dont need to hire some one to fill the forms for you.

Federal Skilled Worker program has become very difficult. You can read more about the eligibility criteria for this program on the following link:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.asp

And one more thing. If you want to talk friends who have applied under the Canadian Experience Class you will need to come to the following thread:
